Right now is the time for us to band together, as a community.
Superintendent Craig Hawkins caught up with Salt 106.5’s Jordana.
“Our advice is, during the course of a storm, do not travel,” he said and explained that venturing out once the storm has arrived poses unnecessary risks, thereby emphasizing the critical need for preemptive sheltering.

“We strongly advise people to take shelter in a place of safety and see the storm out.”
It’s also extremely important the community follows any directions given by emergency services.
“Follow the advice of emergency services,” Superintendent Hawkins said, warning against rushing “back into a place that’s dangerous” after the storm.
“First and foremost take the advice of authorities and follow that advice.”
And don’t forget the vulnerable people who may be living near you.

“Check in on your neighbours, particularly the elderly or the vulnerable living in a community.”
Superintendent Hawkins praises the local spirit and camaraderie, as seen in “people reaching out to others to offer them the support that they need.”
The proactive support within neighborhoods fosters a resilient community able to withstand the trials presented by severe weather, he explains.
