It’s not every day you hear about a world-first, but that’s exactly what’s happening as four women pedal a bicycle built for four across Australia.

Key points:

  • The group set off from Perth on September 1 and, just over two weeks later, had already made it to Ceduna — nearly 2000 kilometres into their journey.

Former Sunshine Coast resident Anna Lindbeck, her sister Rachel Beaden, and friends Louise Ginn and Sonja Allum have taken on this incredible challenge.

The group set off from Perth on September 1 and, just over two weeks later, had already made it to Ceduna — nearly 2000 kilometres into their journey.

“We’re kicking goals,” Anna said. “It’s been a bit up and down on different days… the whole back wheel has been struggling. We broke the hub of our first wheel, and now the spare has broken two spokes along the way.”

The group set off from Perth on September 1 and, just over two weeks later, had already made it to Ceduna — nearly 2000 kilometres into their journey.

Despite the setbacks, they’ve pushed forward. “We just stop every 10 or 15 kms to tighten the spokes,” Anna explained.

The ride isn’t just about the physical challenge. The team is aiming to raise $500,000 for Gotcha4Life, a suicide prevention charity founded by Gus Warland in 2017.

“Our main goal is to raise money for an amazing organisation,” Anna said. “They focus on preventative work — growing resilience and mental fitness in schools and workplaces. Those lifelong skills to handle the ups and downs of life and learning about community are really important values.”

So far, the group has raised nearly $80,000.

As they ride towards Bondi Beach, Anna shared the verse printed on their jerseys: John 10:10 — “Jesus came that we may have life and have it to the full.”

“We can actually help live that out in our lives and with others,” she said. “Make sure you check in with your mates, call your mates and see how they go. Let’s be authentic villagers for each other and help prevent people having those negative thoughts.”
