Listen: Alpha is a place to explore what Christianity is - whether you are a Christian or not. And it's completely free.

If you’ve ever found yourself wondering about the big stuff — why you’re here, what it all means, or whether God is even real — you’re not alone.

Key points:

  • Alpha is a place to explore what Christianity is – whether you are a Christian or not.
  • “There’s no cost whatsoever,” said Kurt. “All it asks is for your time.”

According to Salt 106.5’s Jordy, that’s exactly what Alpha is all about: “It’s a relaxed, no-pressure way to explore faith, meaning and life’s biggest questions.”

Jordy spoke with Kurt from Calvary Church, who’s been involved in running Alpha for years.

“Think of it as a place to explore what Christianity is,” he said.

“It’s a safe, open space where you can bring all your questions, your doubts, your ideas, your fears… and meet other people who probably have the same questions that you do.”

Kurt is clear: Alpha isn’t just for people who already believe.

“You don’t have to be a Christian to join – and actually, you’re not really ‘joining’ anything. There are no commitments. It’s just an opportunity.”

Having run Alpha many times, Kurt said he continues to learn from it. “

Even those who’ve been a Christian for decades — like myself — still come away with something new.

“Sometimes it’s from the video, and sometimes it’s from someone attending for the first time who asks a question that gets me thinking.”

The best part? It’s completely free — even the ones that include dinner. “There’s no cost whatsoever,” said Kurt. “All it asks is for your time.”

Alpha is offered both on campus and online, with the next courses starting in July — the 21st for in-person and the 23rd for online.

Alpha is a place to explore what Christianity is – whether you are a Christian or not.

“Online Alpha was developed because we realised not everyone could make it to every week in person,” explained Kurt. “Maybe you’ve got sick kids or work takes you away — this way you can still finish all eight weeks.”

Jordy shared her own experience of doing Alpha in London. “I just thought it wasn’t really for me — but it was one of the best things I did.

“I made great friends, and it was such a real, honest space. And you get dinner — that’s a huge bonus!”

“There’s no cost whatsoever,” Kurt said. “All it asks is for your time.”

For anyone curious about faith or community, Kurt encouraged listeners to check it out: “You bond with people who have the same questions and doubts as you. It really is an amazing thing to be part of.”

There are also other Alpha programs available, like marriage courses and more. “Head to the Alpha website and have a look,” said Kurt. “It’s all there.”
