Listen: The Morning Wake-up farewell one of Salt 106.5 longest serving volunteers, Graeme Lyon, retiring after 16 years of dedicated service.
This week, the Salt 106.5 team celebrated a volunteer described as “the heartbeat of our station” – a faithful volunteer who maintained the grounds where the Salt transmitter tower stands, near Maleny – the one and only Graeme Lyon.
“I remember I listened to Salt 106.5 (formerly Radio Rhema)… and they were looking for someone to do the mowing at the tower. I didn’t have the money to give but I thought, well, I could do that. So, I rang, spoke to the manager at that time… and I got the job,” Graeme shared.
When asked if he’d seen anything interesting up at the tower, he said, “well I can remember someone backing into the fence there a little while back…” but mostly it was a very peaceful job for someone who loved spending time outside.
