“We all need to remember that this is a Hollywood version of the raids and rescues which take place across the globe and there is no doubt that it is a gripping insight into the dark underworld which has become a $150 billion global industry.
“This is also a story of hope, people across the globe need to know there are organisations like Destiny Rescue out there who are committed to go into these dark places to not only undertake rescues but help with the rehabilitation and education of children so they can become part of the community again.
“We really want to encourage people to go and see the film with an open mind and an open heart when it screens nationally this August to firstly understand the scale of this global crisis but also understand how they can contribute towards its eradication,” Paul said.
“This is also a story of hope, people across the globe need to know there are organisations like Destiny Rescue out there who are committed to go into these dark places to not only undertake rescues but help with the rehabilitation and education of children so they can become part of the community again.
Sound of Freedom is based on Tim Ballard, a former US Homeland security agent on a mission to rescue children from sexual slavery has proven to be a hit in the US with over $165m in ticket sales since its release on July 4 this year.
Mr Mergard said the undeniable fact remains that the movie has ignited conversations about a critical issue that demands our collective attention.
“There are over a million children trafficked into the sex trade every year and regardless of anyone’s beliefs, perceptions or faith we should be standing up as a society and saying this is not right.
“We all need to understand that this is a global issue and Australians have been recognised as large percentage of the child sex abuse perpetrators, especially in their online habits and overseas travel for business or otherwise.
“A UN Special Reporter* revealed that Australians have also been named the largest group of sex tourists prosecuted in Thailand over a 10-year period (31% of the total).
“By engaging in these discussions, we collectively shed light on the darkness that so many victims endure and bolster efforts to eradicate this heinous crime.”
