I will ask the Father and he will give you another Comforter, and he will never leave you. He is the Holy Spirit, the Spirit who leads into all truth. John 14:16b–17a (TLB)

Key points:

  • I understand that even when I’m alone, God’s Spirit is with me, but sometimes the presence of a kind friend, can help me remember God’s love for all of us.
  • The source of all comfort is our loving God through the work of Jesus and the presence of the Holy Spirit.

There have been times in my life when some very difficult things have happened, and a friend has turned up to sit quietly beside me.

The comfort of their presence stands out in my mind as a very special gift. They embodied the comforting presence of God for me.

I understand that even when I’m alone, God’s Spirit is with me to help, guide, comfort and strengthen me.

Even when I’m alone, God’s Spirit is with me, but sometimes the presence of a kind friend, can help me remember God’s love for all of us.

But sometimes the tangible presence of a kind friend, who knows how to be quietly present and sit in the difficult unknown spaces of life, can help me remember God’s love for all of us.

Coming alongside others with the comfort of the Holy Spirit is something I want to gift to others.

Some people seem to be naturally gifted in this way, while others of us can certainly learn how to listen well and provide comfort that encourages and strengthens others.

I’ve learnt that practical help can be a source of comfort to others in difficult times too.

The source of all comfort is our loving God through the work of Jesus and the presence of the Holy Spirit.

The main thing to remember is that comfort is a gift we can all receive and give.

The source of all comfort is our loving God through the work of Jesus and the presence of the Holy Spirit.
